HLT31120 Certificate III in Non–Emergency Patient Transport
Course Overview
There are no pre requisites to gain entry into this course but you will need to be aware to achieve a successful qualification for this course you will have to demonstrate:
- You can competently drive a non-emergency ambulance including reversing using side mirrors only
- Perform various manual handling tasks
- Record patient details
- Navigate to locations (hospitals, nursing homes and private homes)
- Communicate effectively with a range of people
- Work as a team player
- Provide high quality patient care
- Course Entry
- To gain entry into this course you will need to:
- Complete the student enrolment form
- Complete the course application form including entrance questions
- Complete the student declaration
- Provide a copy of your driver’s licence*
- Provide a copy of a valid police check (can take 2 weeks)
- Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – For further information please talk with our enrolment team
*NB whilst you won’t need a Working with Children’s check for your enrolment, it is a legislative requirement should you be successful in gaining employment in the Non –Emergency Patient Transport Industry. Visit www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au for applications and further information.
* A full driver’s licence is a legislative requirement to drive a non-emergency ambulance.
The course will be delivered utilising:

- Each student will be assessed as being competent for each unit after completing a range of assessments including :
- Direct observation/practical demonstration
- Contingency Questioning
- Written questioning (activities, Q&A, test/exam)
- Role play/Scenarios
- Journal
- Observer Shift
*When students are undertaking their industry based observing they will be required to wear navy or black pants, non-slip sturdy flat shoes or boots, a navy or white shirt and a dark coloured polar fleece jumper/jacket.
**Students will need to ensure they have a computer and access to the internet to complete on-line modules.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer
All Best Practice students are eligible to apply for prior skills recognition for units within each course they enrol in. Students need to request an application kit from our office complete the application and provide evidence to support each unit they are applying for RPL.
Each unit application will have a fee attached which will be 75% of the total unit cost (please contact our office for a unit fee schedule) enabling Best Practice to assess your provided evidence for each unit and advise if your prior learning is competent based on the assessment and learning outcomes for each unit.
On receipt of application kit an invoice will be sent, once payment has been received then Best Practice will commence the assessment of your evidence against the assessment and learning outcomes of each unit.
Best Practice will notify you in writing of your RPL outcomes, please allow 2 weeks from when payment is made for your outcome.
Best Practice Health Education also offers Credit Transfer (CT), students need to provide evidence that they have completed formal training through another organisation. There is an administrative cost of $50 per unit for Credit Transfer.
Course Structure and Hours
Best Practice will deliver this course in a range of formats.
FULL TIME
6 week face to face course students will have scheduled classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for 8 hours per day.
The 6 week course will commence after students have completed 190 hours (equivalent of 5 weeks) pre-course online learning.
PART TIME
13 week course students will have scheduled classes on two evenings for three hours and one Saturday all day.
The 13 week course will commence after students have completed 190 hours (equivalent of 5 weeks) pre-course online learning.
Students will also be required to complete approximately 190 off campus study prior to the course commencement.
*Duration of course reflects the learning needs of students with no prior first aid experience. Students with current first aid certificate maybe eligible to reduced course duration. This will be confirmed on course enrolment with the student.
A student will have up to 6 months to complete the off campus course content**
**NB Students must complete and submit all on-line learning modules before they are eligible to gain their qualification.
Students will also be required to complete a driving assessment and participate in two observer shifts to gain the complete certificate.
